House was broken into yesterday, my d300 with my 80-200 2.8 on it,and the d70s were both stolen along with my bike - all uninsured.
Lucky for me, I just bought 500 sheets of darkroom paper..

Breaking the silence

Mon May 12, 2008, 5:49 AM
I seem to have been quiet of late. Many things in my life are happening now, and it's time to fill people in.
Since the start of the year I've been studying Graphic Design at my local tafe, which is great fun, and a real strange step away from the camera. I've met some great people there, and am also becoming bogged down in assesments.

On the photography front I have 2 new toys to tell the great world about:

1. The Darkroom - I've been building this darkroom under the house since about september last year when I was overcome by a crazy idea late one night to put up some walls and casually "make a darkroom".
Needless to say i did my first print in there about 4 months later. I've posted a few prints so far on here - but I'm still very much learning to control my results.

2. Nikon D300 - I've been wanting to retire my d70s for some time now... 20k frames, a few drops, and poor ISO noise. So I finally dished out some savings a few weeks ago to buy one. The AF system is amazing, no more wandering focus anymore. The ability to mount AI lenses (old manual) and get metering is breathing life into the old gold. I can barely wait for the holidays when I can get out and about shooting with it!

On another note, I've also been on DA for just over a year now!
Also just passed 2000 page views, which when I enitially joined seemed an unreachable goal.

A big thankyou to all my watchers out there - DevMeetSyd who gave a great op to get out and about with other like minded, slightly becrazed, fantastic people. Also to the rest of DA who have inspired me to shoot more, be more open, and move into B&W.
Shit, did I just win an emmy?

and a big thumbs up to anybody who actually gets this far down the page!

FILM MADNESS!

Sun Oct 7, 2007, 9:38 PM
Well, here comes the second journal entry - this one will have some substance though.

Recently i've been using my film cameras rather than just appreciating them, and i've also tried my luck with some equipment i've never used before. 3 rolls of film is the by-product.
Coming soon you will see my B&W results from my Nikon f4, and see what happens when i use a tamron 11-18mm intended for a DX sensor on a 35mm film. Fisheye.
Another 12exp roll of film was thrown into a very old and batterd Pentax sportmatic with ancient Carl Zeiss lense + bellows attached on the front. This setup im improvising with - macro stuff only.
For today though, there is going to be some older prints scanned and uploaded.

Hope everyones having a good old monday!

well, my first journal entry :O
for someone who always thought blogging was kinda weird, this is a first.

I'm off on a working holiday with work for the next few days - and i've just posted up some new photos from the trip so far. Most of them suffer from a huge piece of dust in my camera in the top center, which is giving me the shits. Will be cleaned soon.

199 pageviews! not long till 200 ;)

ahh, what a newbie....
